Researcher Aran Mooney has spent a lot of the last year studying hearing in squid. It was assumed that squid could not hear at all but it turns out that although they can't respond to dolphin clicks and they can't hear as well as humans, they can detect low frequencies. Mooney has been using different kinds of experiments to study the way a squid hears. This study is being used to find ways that they can help with hearing in humans. Unnatural oceans noises might be dangerous to squid and without this animal, the whole ecosystem would be dramatically changed and maybe damaged.
